Link Building Strategies

Link building strategies are critical for internet marketing success.

The post yesterday gave you a good understanding of what backlinks are, why you need them and how you can get them.

This post will explore more link building strategies. Experts recommend that you implement several link building strategies at once.

Now, we’ll cover Web 2.0 link building (what this is, what are the advantages and disadvantages) and using blog commenting and blog networks effectively.

What is Web 2.0 Link Building?

These are user-generated sites that use free places on the internet and allow you to build a web page.

Some advantages of Web 2.0 link building strategies:

1. These strategies allow you to leverage a high authority domain, usually having PR of 4 and above.

2. The web pages you build on these sites get indexed quickly by the search engines, usually the same day.

3. The links are usually “do follow” links. This is a tag included in the link that tells the search engine spiders to influence the ranking of the site that the link points to. This is also referred to as passing “link juice” or link authority to the other site. For more info about spiders read “Search Engine Ranking, Understanding How It Works.

4. These pages can rank highly in organic results.

5. They help you build a diverse link profile.

6. The pages are easy to create and give you full control of the title, content and anchor text.

The disadvantages of Web 2.0
link building strategies include:

1. These pages have been somewhat devalued with the Google Panda update because Google realizes that these sites are being used for links and not for user value, but they still count.
2. You don’t have full control because the pages are not self-hosted.

You can build Web 2.0 pages on:

1. Squidoo.com, HubPages.com, Blogger.com, WordPress.com, and other sites – Create account, logging, and post.

2. EHow.com – Sign in and click “Write Now” from your profile page. The publishing wizard will guide you through the steps.

3. Wikipedia.com – After creating an account, click help, then editing wikipedia, then creating pages–how to, then start a new page.

4. Digg.com – Log into your account, click “submit a new story”, type in URL, title, description and category.
Link Building Strategies

Social Media should be an essential
part of your link building strategies.

Social media has recently become a larger part of the overall Google algorithm, and will likely become even more important. Social media should be an essential part of your link building strategies. You’ll want to include:

a. Micro-blogging sites sites like Twitter, Tumbler, Google+, Facebook, LinkedIn, MySpace

b. Social bookmarking sites like StumbleUpon, Digg, Reddit, YahooBuzz, and Delicious

c. Social Q&A sites like YahooAnswers, and Answers.com

d. Image/Video/Audio sites like YouTube, Flickr and iTunes

e. Document sharing sites like DocStoc, SlideShare and Scribd

Even though the majority of these sites are no-follow, they are looked at by Google. You can automatically post to/ping these by using tools like HootSuite, Ping.fm, or OnlyWire.

You may want to consider adding blog
commenting to your link building strategies.

With blog commenting, you want to position yourself as an authority while making comments that stand out from the rest. Blog commenting also allows you to build relationships with blog owners and your target community. You will want to give lots of value.

When using this strategy, you want to look for blogs that:

1. Have high authority blogs that are relevant to your industry.

2. Allow commenting and that give “do-follow” links.

3. Have active participation.

4. Generate regular, high-quality content.

You can find authority blogs in your niche by going to sites like Technorati.com, Alltop.com or BlogPulse.com. You can also do a search in Google for “top ‘keyword’ blogs” or “do follow blogs”.

Link Building Tips

Here are a couple of link building tips you may want to check out:

1. FastBlogFinder.com – I found out about this software that helps you compile a list of blogs in your niche so that you can submit your comments. It tells you the page rank of the blogs and whether they are do-follow or no-follow. Plus, once you leave a comment, this software allows you to check if the comment was approved. You can easily import the list of blogs and give it to a virtual assistant or outsource it. There is a free version and a paid version.

2. BlogGlue.com – This is a plugin (you can add this your blog) that allows you to select recommended blogs that show up at the end of each post you publish. Those blog owners also show your blog in their recommended blogs list at the end of their posts. This allows you to build your network and relationships, as well as create relevant links. Again, there is a free version and a paid version.

Yesterday’s post and this post give you a firm foundation on link building strategies. This post covered the advantages and disadvantages of Web 2.0 link building strategies and how blog commenting and blog networks are used for link building. There are other link building strategies for you to consider, but the ones covered in these posts are very effective for search engine ranking and driving traffic.
