Web 2.0 Strategies – Social Media Marketing

As I said last week, we’ll be reviewing traffic-generation strategies and evaluating how effective they are.  This week I’ll share with you something I learned too late…

“Starting a Blog – Don’t make this mistake!”

When I first started my blog, I was following instructions from a marketing guru (who I will not name in this writing).  He advised me (and everyone in the class) to create my blog using my name in order to build my brand.
Now, after several months, things have changed.  I’m being told that Google assumes relevance if the domain name has the keyword phrase in it.  So, if you are just getting started and want free traffic from Google, I highly recommend that you select your keyword phrase  and then get a domain name with that keyword phrase in it.
Based on the way Google is ranking sites now, your domain name should definitely include your keyword phrase.

Also, before you select a keyword phrase, I recommend that you discover a marketing niche.  Check out my mini-course to learn more about this.
If you already have a blog, you might be reluctant to start all over–just as I am.  I’ve chosen to do an alternate strategy, instead.  I purchased a domain name with my keyword phrase and redirected it to my blog.  So, whenever anyone types in that domain name, they go to my blog.  We’ll see if this helps.

For tracking purposes, here is where I’m starting on Google:
1.  My blog is showing up on page 1 in Google for my keyword phrase, and I am currently in position #9.  The higher the rank, the more free traffic you get.
2.  My Google pagerank (a method of determining the importance of web pages) is now a “0″ or “?” (depending on which tool you use).  My pagerank used to be a “3″–the higher the better.  I think it’s been lowered because I changed my keyword phrase after months of working on a different phrase.

Again, I’ll track my progress as I implement the strategies in the traffic program and share them with you each week.

I’d like to hear what you think.  Did you find this information useful?  As always please give me your comments.

Also, let me know if you have any questions– Ask JC.

How 2 Seconds Can Change Your Life

If you’ve been reading this newsletter for a while, you know that I love to read stuff and share what I find interesting with you.
Well, I just read an email by Chaney Weiner with the above subject line, and I think that email was compelling.
In it Chaney explained how we are programmed to be impatient, and he listed what we can do about this. Allow me to summarize a couple of his tips:
1. If you find yourself always rushing to do “some” thing else, ask yourself:
“How is what I’m doing serving and benefiting me and/or those important to me?
2. Why wait to appreciate “the good old days” when you can appreciate “these” times now?  Be grateful for who and what is in your life right now.  Be thankful for the present.
3. Do what you love.  When you are doing what you are passionate about, time almost stands still.  Then 2 hours can seem like 2 seconds.
As Chaney puts it, “take the time and find what it is you love to do, no matter what it is, and show the world that you have so much to offer from the magnificence that is you.”
These tips will only take a couple of seconds, and they can change your life!
What do you think about these tips?
Let me know your comments.

Aww… what a tease. Now I can’t wait to find that missing ingredient next week.

Very well done newsletter. You’ve got me hooked and most marketers aren’t able to accomplish that.
    Keep up the good work!

OMG! What an awesome training event! I hope some of you were able to tune in to the livestreaming training event by iLearningGlobal. The trip was well worth the time to me and Ralph (my hubby). I’ll be sharing some of the insights we gained in next week’s newsletter. Got to pack and head back home.
