This Week’s Social Media News

Social Media News for Online Marketing Success”

I just read a very good article entitled, “4 Ways to Grow a Twitter Following That Matters.” I think it is one of the better articles I’ve read on the topic of twitter following. It offered very useful information that I will summarize for you. (For more detail, visit the full article using the link in the social media news section below.)

If you are looking to grow your twitter following with relevant followers, here are key points:

1. The thing that matters with Twitter is how responsive your followers are. For them to be responsive, you need to target people based on their interests. So, when you tweet, they’ll respond because it’s likely to be of interest to them. There are specific tools, like Twellow and WeFollow, that you can use to search for ideal followers.

2. You can utilize the hashtag (#) to search for specific conversations about your keywords. Then join the conversation and answer questions. This may give you the opportunity to make a product offer to them.

3. You can set up alerts using tools like, Twilert, that allows you to know when conversations take place about specific keywords.

4. You can increase your visibility by creating a Twitter “newspaper” using This is a free service monitors your content sources to update your paper automatically.

At the second link below, “Want Better Twitter Results? Try These Effective Types of Tweets,” the author reported on findings of a survey on effective tweets.

Here are some Twitter tips based on the findings:

1. The most engaging tweets are questions to followers. Be sure to use hashtags so that the conversation can easily be tracked.
2. Using humor is a good way to share thoughts and opinions.
3. The worst tweets are about what the tweeter is doing now. With location check-ins via Foursquare being considered irrelevant.
4. You can include a personal commentary when you retweet a news source.
5. You should send out happy tweets. Tweeters don’t like whiners.
